For piano, F minor (1863/64)
- Begun in 1863 or 1864 (possibly intended as the first movement of a Piano
Sonata).
- Scored for Piano solo (2 hands).
- The central theme was reworked in the
Scherzo, Op. 2, No. 2 (1867).
- Average duration: 10m 30s (completed version).
History
A student work, written during Tchaikovsky’s student years at the
Saint Petersburg Conservatory
[1]. In 1867 Tchaikovsky
re-used the middle section of the Allegro in the Scherzo of the piano cycle
Souvenir de Hapsal.
