Nuremberg

Nuremberg (Nürnberg) is a city in the state of Bavaria, Germany, on the Red Main river. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime the city was part of the independent Kingdom of Bavaria until 1871, when it was incorporated into the German Empire.

Tchaikovsky stayed at Nuremberg from 7/19 August to 8/19 August 1876, after returning from the first Wagner Festival in nearby Bayreuth. "This Nuremberg is so charming", he wrote to his brother Modest [1].
