Kotovsk (Birzula)
Kotovsk (Котовськ) is a city and the administrative centre of the Kotovsk district (Котовський район) in the Odessa oblast (Одеська область) of Ukraine. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was known as Birzula (Бирзула), and formed part of Baltsk district (Балтский уезд) of Podol'sk province (Подольская губерния) in the Russian Empire.
Tchaikovsky passed through Birzula railway station at around 4am on 27 June/9 July 1873, travelling by rail from Kamenka to Breslau.
