Glebovo

Glebovo (Глебово), or Glebovo-Izbitsi (Глебово-Избищи, Glebovo-Izbici), is a town and administrative centre of the Istra district (Истринская район) in the Moscow oblast' (Московская область) of the Russian Federation. During Tchaikovsky's lifetime it was part of the Zvenigorod district (Звенигородский уезд) in the Moscow province (Московская губерния) of the Russian Empire.

Tchaikovsky stayed at Konstantin Shilovskii's family's estate near Glebovo on two occasions:

• 28 March/9 April–12/24 April 1876 — to escape "all the bustle and clamour of the festivities in Moscow. and to work properly on the ballet, which has to be finished as soon as possible". The full score of the ballet Swan Lake was completed at Glebovo on 10/22 April.
• 29 May/10 June–25 June/7 July 1877 — to work on the opera Evgenii Onegin, starting with the Letter Scene (Act I, No. 9), and completing around two-thirds of the opera during his four-week visit.
