Александра Андреевна Чайковская

Mother of the composer. Born Aleksandra Andreevna ASSIER (Ассиер) on 30 July/11 August 1812 in Saint Petersburg, the fifth child of Andrei Mikhailovich ASSIER and his wife Ekaterina Mikhailovna (b. POPOVA).

Aleksandra was educated at the Patriotic Institute in Moscow from the age of four. On 1/13 October 1833 she married Il'ia Petrovich TCHAIKOVSKY (1795-1880), and they had seven children:

  1. Ekaterina Il'inichna TCHAIKOVSKAIA (abt. 1836-37)
  2. Nikolai Il'ich TCHAIKOVSKY (1838-1911)
  3. Petr Il'ich TCHAIKOVSKY (1840-1893), the composer.
  4. Aleksandra Il'inichna TCHAIKOVSKAIA (1841-1891)
  5. Ippolit Il'ich TCHAIKOVSKY (1845-1927)
  6. Anatolii Il'ich TCHAIKOVSKY (1850-1915)
  7. Modest Il'ich TCHAIKOVSKY (1850-1916)

Aleksandra Assier died of cholera on 13/25 June 1854, and was buried at Smolenskoe Cemetery in Saint Petersburg.
