Ippolit PrianishnikovIppolit Petrovich Prianishnikov (Ипполит Петрович Прянишников) was a Russian baritone, director, and operatic impresario, born at Kerch' on 14/26 August 1847. He studied in Saint Petersburg, and sang in Italy until 1877. The following year he made his debut with the Imperial Opera at the Mariinskii Theatre in the Russian capital, with whom he remained until 1886. He gave the first Saint Petersburg performances of the roles of Onegin in Evgenii Onegin (1880), Lionel in The Maid of Orleans (1881), and the title role in Mazepa (1884). He was also an experienced conductor, and went on to form his own opera company which staged performances throughout Russia. Ippolit Prianishnikov died in Moscow on 11 November 1921, aged 74. |
