Sergei Popov

Maternal great-uncle of the composer (b. 23 May/3 June 1785 in Saint Petersburg; d. 24 March/5 April 1851), born Sergei Mikhailovich Popov (Сергей Михайлович Попов, Sergej Mihailovč Popov, Sergey Mikhaylovich Popov).

Sergei was the youngest child of son of Mikhail Popov (1751–1792) and his wife Anna (b. Rykovskaia, ca.1752–ca.1783). He became a civil servant, rising to the rank of Titular Councillor (9th Grade).

Sergei Popov died on 24 March/5 April 1851, and was buried at the Smolenskoe Cemetery in Saint Petersburg.
