Nikolai PopovNikolai Mikhailovich Popov (Николай Михайлович Попов) was a maternal great-uncle of the composer, born on 18/29 August 1779 in Saint Petersburg, the eldest son of Mikhail Popov and his wife Anna Rykovskaia. He was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir (3rd and 4th Class) and Order of St. Anne (2nd Class). In 1823 he married Anna Vilminovna Mertens (daughter of Vilmina Fedorovich Mertens, a privy councillor), and they had six children: Aleksandr (b. 1824); Vladimir (b. 1826); Nadezhda (b. 1831); Nikolai (b. 1834); Kirill (b. 1835); and Ekaterina (b. 1837). Nikolai Popov died on 27 September/9 October 1869, and was buried at the Smolenskoe Cemetery in Saint Petersburg. |
