Vladimir NápravníkVladimir Eduardovich Nápravník (Владимир Эдуардович Направник) was born in 1869, the son of the conductor and composer Eduard Nápravník and his wife Ol'ga. Tchaikovsky had good relations with all the Nápravník family, and corresponded regularly with them. As Vladimir recalled in his memoirs "Despite the fact that he was of the same age as my father, he took me 'seriously', acquainted me with his brother Modest... and introduced me also to the company of his nephews and their friends". Several letters survive between the composer and Vladimir Nápravník, in which Tchaikovsky discusses his works and future plans. Vladimir Nápravník went on to become a lawyer, and secretary to the board of the Russian Musical Society in Saint Petersburg. He died in 1948. |
