Anna Merkling

Anna Petrovna Merkling (Анна Петровна Мерклинг) was the composer's cousin, born Anna Tchaikovskaia (Чайковская) in 1830, the oldest child of Peter Petrovich Tchaikovsky and his wife Evdokia. During her first marriage she was known as Anna Egorova (Егорова).

After her first marriage to a Mr Egorov, she married for the second time to Pëtr Ivanovich Merkling, by whom she had a daughter, Lidiia.

Tchaikovsky always remained close to his cousin Anna, and his Menuetto scherzoso (No. 3 of the Six Pieces, Op. 51) was dedicated to her.

Anna Merkling died in 1911.
