Fedor Maslov

Fedor Ivanovich Maslov (Федор Иванович Маслов) was a Russian lawyer and jurist, born in 1840.

A contemporary of Tchaikovsky's at the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg during the 1850s, and a colleague of the composer's at the Ministry of Justice from 1860 to 1861, Maslov moved to Moscow, where he rose to become chairman of the judicial service for the Moscow region.

Tchaikovsky was very close to the whole Maslov family, which included Fedor's sisters Anna, Varvara and Sof'ia, and his brother Nikolai. During the 1870s and 1880s the composer spent a great deal of time at the Maslovs' home, and visiting their estate at Orel'.
