Fedor Afanas'evich Chaika

Федор Афанасьевич Чайка

Great-grandather of the composer. Born about 1695 at Nikolaevka (Poltava Region), Ukraine.

A Cossack in the Omel'nitskii Division of the Mirgorodskii Regiment, who reputedly fought under Peter the Great at the Battle of Poltava.

He married Anna (b. 1717), also known as “Chaichikha”, and they had five children:

  1. Danilo Fedorovich CHAIKA (b. 1738)
  2. Petr Fedorovich CHAIKA, later TCHAIKOVSKY (b. 1745), grandfather of the composer
  3. Mikhailo Fedorovich CHAIKA (b. 1748)
  4. Matvei Fedorovich CHAIKA (b. 1750)
  5. Aleksei Fedorovich CHAIKA (b. 1760)

Fedor Chaika died in 1767.
