Besson & Co.

Firm of brass instrument manufacturers, founded by Gustave-Auguste Besson (1820–1874).

Besson opened branches in Paris around 1838, and in London in 1851. In 1858, following a long series of lawsuits with Adolphe Sax, Gustave-Auguste Besson left Paris to build a factory in London, and over the following years he continued to manufacture in Paris and London. Following his death in Paris in 1874, the company changed its name, becoming Fontaine-Besson in France, and Besson & Co. in England.
