Ivan Samoilovich AlopeusИван Самойловнч АлопеусRussian military officer and educator, born in 1824. A former artillery captain, Alopeus was a teacher (1852-55), inspector of puipls (1855-77), and eventually (from 1877) director of the Imperial School of Jurisprudence in Saint Petersburg. In 1885 Alopeus commissioned the Jurisprudence March and Jurists' Song from Tchaikovsky, to be perfomed as part of the school's fiftieth anniversary celebrations. Ivan Alopeus died in 1919. |
