Notes:
- Tchaikovsky had arrived in Saint Petersburg on 23 February/7 March 1887 to prepare for the concert of his works which he was due to conduct
at the Philharmonic Society on 5/17 March. At this concert excerpts from
The Enchantress were performed for the first time (one of Kuma's arias sung by
Aleksandra Panaeva-Kartsova and the
Dance of the Tumblers). Tchaikovsky returned to Maidanovo on 12/24 March. During his stay in
Saint Petersburg, as entries in his diary show, he called on
Emiliia Pavlovskaia several times, and on 11/23 March she and her husband were among those who saw Tchaikovsky off at the station. However, the visit to
Pavlovskaia's house on 2/14 March referred to in this telegram is not recorded in Tchaikovsky's diary—note based on information provided by Vasilii Kiselev in:
Чайковский на московской сцене (1940), p. 385
