Hayao Myazaki's Spirited Away and Tchaikovsky's Opus 21

I listened to Tchaikovsky's Six Pieces on a Single Theme op. 21 this evening and was struck, like before, how similar it sounds to the theme that the composer Joe Hisaishi uses in Hayao Myazaki's animated movie Spirited Away.

This theme can already be heard in the very first minute of the opening scene

For those who are interested: Myazaki's film is truly beautiful and poetic, with handdrawn animation that, in my opinion, none of the modern digital computer graphic movies can ever equal.
