History

This short musical phrase was noted by Tchaikovsky on a printed copy of T. L. Shchepkina-Kupernik’s drama Eternity in an Instant (extracted from the Moscow journal Artist). The date of the sketch, and the nature of the work for which it may have been intended, have not been established..
