two different completions, by K. K. Kalinenko (1980) and Leslie Howard
(1995) respectively, both under the title Sonata. The central theme was reworked in the Scherzo—No. 2 of Souvenir de Hapsal, Op. 2 (1867) |
History
A student work, written during Tchaikovsky’s student years at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory [1]. In 1867 Tchaikovsky re-used the middle section of the Allegro in the Scherzo of the piano cycle Souvenir de Hapsal.
