The last pages of this student piano piece are missing. There are
two different completions, by K. K. Kalinenko (1980) and Leslie Howard
(1995) respectively, both under the title Sonata.
The central theme was reworked in the
Scherzo—No. 2 of
Souvenir de Hapsal, Op.
2 (1867) |
History
A student work, written during Tchaikovsky’s student years at the
Saint Petersburg Conservatory
[1]. In 1867 Tchaikovsky
re-used the middle section of the Allegro in the Scherzo of the piano cycle
Souvenir de Hapsal.
